To increase the visibility of publications in the Southeastern Philippines Journal of Research and Development (SPJRD), the Publication Unit conducted a Two-day Workshop on International Journal Indexing on August 30-31, 2022, via Zoom teleconference.
Dr. Peter Paul Elicor, the Area Editor of Social Ethics Society Journal of Applied Philosophy, and the first resource person, commenced the discussion on Indexing a Journal into ASEAN Citation Index (ACI).
In his presentation, he highlighted the processes in applying to ACI with its necessary documents to affix, including ISSN, a journal website, and the number of issues per year. In this manner, Dr. Elicor even conducted his initial assessment on SPJRD through the ACI criteria, which conclusively appeared qualified for ACI indexing.
Dr. Elicor was a Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Salzburg, Austria. Also, he had his roots as a part-time faculty member of the USeP College of Arts and Sciences (CAS).
Subsequent to the workshop on ACI, the program proceeded to the presentation on Indexing a Journal into Web of Science (WoS), graced by Prof. Dr. Hussin Hanafi, the Editor-in-Chief of JATI Journal of Southeast Asian Studies at the University of Malaya, Malaysia, and the second resource person of the activity.
WoS is more intricate in the qualifications than of ACI, but it ensures peer-reviewed quality journals. Moreover, it significantly widens the publications' credibility as WoS strives to publish research articles with high standards.
After each presentation, Dr. Elicor and Prof. Dr. Hussin actively addressed all questions during the open forum from the participants that include Dr. Eleonor T. Guden, the Director of Research and Development Division; Dr. Reynaldo M. Nogodula, the Officer-in-Charge of International Affairs Division; the College Research Heads; Assoc. Prof. Sajed S. Ingilan, the Deputy Director of Publication Unit; and the Publication Board and Staff.
Indexing a journal is enlisting a publication in metadata, such as ACI and WoS. This will allow the research works to be discovered by other researchers. Therefore, journal visibility to other researchers will increase when indexed, and encourages the researchers to submit publications as these indexing bodies counter predatory journals. SPJRD, the official research journal of the University, has been seeking to be affiliated with these international indexing bodies, a small step along its intent to become a premier research university in the ASEAN region.
