The Research Programs Director of CotSU, Dr. Norkaina C. Samama, gathered distinguished faculty and experts to empower early-career researchers, projecting them toward efficiently writing high-quality articles for potential publication in indexed, peer-reviewed journals.
Also, demonstrating his commitment to attain their objectives in advancing publications within their institution, University President Prof. Dr. Sema G. Dilna participated in the sessions and gave relevant insights about research presence.
Dr. Angelo Lenard E. Yu, SPJRD Managing Editor, began the scholarly discussions on Preparing Research Articles for Publication. His session provided invaluable insights into crafting compelling and impactful research articles, helping participants confidently navigate the publication landscape.
"Don't be afraid of rejection because it is a step toward a successful research publication," inspired Dr. Yu to the researchers to strive in publishing despite the challenges that can be overturned in learning and professional growth.
Furthermore, Mr. Francis N. Reginio, the Deputy Director of USeP Publication, progressed the discussions to Publication Integrity: Putting Principles into Practice. He highlighted ethics and malpractice, delving into the ethical considerations that underpin scholarly publishing, and equipping participants with essential tools to maintain the highest standards of integrity in their research output.
As Director Samama willed to revitalize the research journal of CotSU, her Office advances to benchmarking best practices from the Southeastern Philippines Journal of Research and Development (SPJRD), the official research journal of USeP. Subsequently, Assoc. Prof. Sajed S. Ingilan, SPJRD Editor-in-Chief, embarked on a presentation shedding light on the specific standards and practices crucial for success in scholarly publishing while providing background experiences of SPJRD.
In the modern era where technology is integrated into research endeavors, the Editorial Assistants of SPJRD extended the discussions on such imperative applications. Ms. Hannah Mae G. Lolong discussed using the Open Journal System (OJS) to sustain the online accessibility of journal articles. In addition, Mr. Rey Kenneth John G. Marces addressed identifying predatory journals, checking an article's similarity index through Turnitin, verifying a journal's indexing, and using AI as an editorial assistant.
The academic drive of CotSU to empower early-career faculty researchers found a dynamic partner in USeP faculty and publication board members, who also participated in the evaluation and critique of participants' research outputs. This interactive component offered attendees personalized feedback, enabling them to refine their writing skills under the mentorship of experts. The segment became an avenue for them to identify the potentiality of their articles for publication.
The engagement of USeP faculty members at the Seminar-Workshop on Scientific Writing and Publication symbolizes a commitment to knowledge-sharing and collaborative growth within the academic community. It exemplifies the remarkable progress that can be achieved when institutions unite to enhance research capabilities and create a more substantial research environment.
